Physical Activity, Nutrition, and Obesity

Obesity: Old Problems, New Bridges 12th Portuguese Congress of Obesity, 2008 Aveiro Portuguese Society for the Study of Obesity Meeting in Aveiro, Portugal from 19th to 22th of November of 2008. Founded in 1989 in Lisbon, The Portuguese Society for the Study of Obesity aims to promote research and spread knowledge concerning obesity and other aspects related to obesity, relevant to society and the scientific community (e.g.: epidemiology, nutritional behavior, physical activity, medical consequences). The organization of scientific meetings, especially the Portuguese Congress of Obesity, assumes a decisive role in SPEO’s sphere of action and many of its resources are devoted to this annual event. SPEO ensures the representation of national scientific societies and related international organizations dedicated to the issue of obesity, such as The International Society of the Study of Obesity, and The European Association for the Study of Obesity. SPEO also has privileged contacts with the General Department of Health, with the press, with the Portuguese Association of Ex-Obese and Obese Patients (ADEXO), with universities and, in general, with all entities and individuals interested in the issue of Obesity. Learn more about SPEO here: http://www.speo-obesidade.pt/ Fundada em 1989, a Sociedade Portuguesa para o Estudo da Obesidade (SPEO), com sede em Lisboa, tem como objectivo principal promover a investigação e a divulgação de conhecimento relacionado com a obesidade e os aspectos com ela relacionados, com relevância para a sociedade e comunidade científica (p.ex., epidemiologia, comportamento alimentar e actividade física, complicações médicas, etc.). A organização de reuniões científicas, nomeadamente o Congresso Português de Obesidade, assumem para a SPEO um papel decisivo na sua esfera de acção e muitos dos seus recursos são dedicados a este evento anual. A SPEO assegura também a representação nacional das sociedades científicas e organizações afins internacionais dedicadas ao tema da obesidade, como a International Society for the Study of Obesity, e a European Association for the Study of Obesity. A SPEO tem também contactos privilegiados com o Direcção-Geral da Saúde, com a imprensa, com a Associação de Doentes Obeses e Ex-Obesos (ADEXO), com Universidades e, em geral, com todas as entidades e individualidades interessadas no tema da obesidade.
